It is an honor to serve as President of the Queens County Women’s Bar Association. I hope to continue the magnificent work of the amazing women of QCWBA, who served as Presidents, Officers, Board of Directors, State Delegates and members. These women have made countless contributions to the community and dedicated their time, resources and knowledge focusing on an endless number of issues that are important to our members. As a member, Board of Director, State Delegate, Officer and now President, I have grown in character and strength because of them. We are so diverse in our membership and in many areas of law. I plan to increase our membership to include our younger generation of lawyers to join and benefit from mentors in every area of law. The Queens County Women’s Bar Association is also big on giving back to our community. My goal as President is to continue this legacy and partner with organizations that are in the business of helping our most vulnerable citizens including our younger generation. I work within an institution that has afforded me the opportunity to witness the myriad challenges that this younger generation has. While I am grateful that I have been able to assist many of our teens and young adults, I see that there are so many societal deficits that beckon our attention and require our input to turn the steering wheel in the right direction. We need to ensure that our children today and soon to be adults tomorrow have the gift of vision, of their ability to mature into adults with the capacity to contribute to society. For them to have this gift, they must know that their voice, both individually and in the collective, matters. This happens through our mentorship, programing, provision of platforms for the incoming generation, as well as working together with elected officials, community leaders, educators, judges, and numerous associations, so that our children have a well-founded hope, an unwavering positive self-identity and do not fall through the cracks. Together, we can, and we must continue to make this new generation a priority. During my term, I wish for QCWBA to have programs that relate to youth empowerment and its value and importance to the health of our cherished communities in Queens and society at large.

Finally, I want to acknowledge the men that have supported and continue to support the women of this organization. We thank you and hope to have your continued support.

Elizabeth J. Newton, President
